Read That Funky Music is notated bass lines in the classic styles. Forty track accompanying play-along CD included. You will love these lines
Each style in this book has individual characteristics. You will see these style characteristics as you learn each song. Some articulation has been added, but much more is naturally a part of each style.
After you have worked with the notation, be sure to then play along with the audio tracks. Hearing the line while reading the notation will create a memory connection between your ears and eyes. Then repeat each example until you create muscle memory and the shapes are “in your hands.”
Good reading is a process of recognition and execution. The benefit of learning to read these lines is tremendous. The rhythmic phrases and pitch sets contained in these example are also found in countless classic bass lines. When you have practiced these lines enough you will be able to recognize the sound and feel of each. This will become the foundation for a great amount of your future reading.
Some of the examples may be difficult for you to read depending on your skills - no problem. Take the time to work them out. This is what I call level 4 reading practice. My early reading practice consisted of working out and memorizing Carol Kaye boogaloo lines. Building your reading vocabulary is a must.
