Description
Stinnett Applied Music Method - A Comprehensive Guide To Utilizing Jim’s Books In Your Teaching
“Less Talk, More Music,” is the underlying principal of my teaching. Since music is an aural art form, I have always focused on producing sound and learning by ear.
I have never studied the Suzuki method of music instruction, but I loved seeing the stage packed full of little violin players all performing the same song. Long before I could put into words, or even organize my thoughts in reaction to seeing the Suzuki recitals, I could feel the rightness of this musical experience I was watching on TV. At this time I was enrolled in a community college in Oregon, and coming from my background, honestly, my only exposure to the word Suzuki was the nameplate on my 185cc dirt bike motorcycle. I was a student of the bass guitar. I had also taught many students in my dad’s music store over the previous four years. I did not recognize at that time that my dad and I were using Suzuki concepts and methods in his studio.
Over the years, I have developed a pedagogy that has proven highly successful. “If you can’t play it, you don’t know it” has been a guiding principal. Good performance demands physical mastery. This fundamental concept is the foundation of my teaching.
In Stinnett Applied Music Method, I outline my methods as they pertain to specific areas of study. Our extensive audio/video support library is a vital part of the aural experience. I will show you how I use my books and CDs as tools in private and classroom instruction. Oh boy, here we go, now you all will know my secrets.
